Hi my name is Kimberley and I am the founder of funkygites.com. Originally from up north in the UK, I worked as Fundraiser and Event Organiser for Macmillan Cancer Relief charity before changing my life for an adventure in the South of France in 2002 .Together with my partner, we settled into a new life in Caylus, starting my own Pilates studio; Andy, my partner, an environmental and archaeological business.
Two children later, we decided to take on another challenge and open a gite holiday house as my passion is recycling and design. We loved the project so much that we decided to do another and then another! Sometimes you have to think outside the box and that’s what I did. These are no ordinary gites –they offer a “Real Getaway Experience”. I understand the importance of holiday time especially when you have worked hard all year and you have been saving up for this important family time. I have tried to make them themed, quirky and fun but at the same time comfortable and for all the family including the grandparents.
I also love to travel and each year off I go with my bestie who is a doctor an adventure to somewhere a bit different but also where we can help. We have worked in a hospital in Madagascar, in a school in Saint Marie, charity work in Ethiopia, Temple run to raise money in Myanmar, challenge hike in Corsica and a scary bike ride in Madagascar. This year off to Kenya as a volunteer in an orphanage and set up new funkyescapes.com that combines charity work with a holiday. I love the feeling of giving something back in life to those less fortunate than me, I feel very blessed.
So from me, Andy, Barnaby, Louis and my mad rescue dog Chipie we would love to welcome you to our gites in the South of France with stupendous restaurants, wine, cheese, foie gras, more wine, mystical castles, magical woods, gourmet open air markets, stunning scenery, outdoor sports, fishing, biking, canoeing (and most within waling distance!).
